Cox, Rodriguez Named To Academic All-District Team

San Jose, Calif – San José State University softball players Michelle Cox and Erin Rodriguez have earned Capital One Academic All-District VIII honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) membership.

Cox and Rodriguez are two of three Mountain West softball players to garner Academic All-District accolades and are now eligible for 2014 Capital One Academic All-America honors.

Cox, native of Sydney, N.S.W., Australia, is a Business Administration major concentrating in accounting with a 3.74 grade point average. The junior outfielder has the second-best batting average on the Spartans this season (.343), scoring 28 runs, driving in 12 runners and stealing a team-high six bases.

Rodriguez, a sophomore and designated player, is maintaining a 3.86 grade point average as a Child and Adolescent Development major. The Corona, Calif., native leads the Spartans in Mountain West play at the plate, batting .409 in 18 games started, slugging .500 and posting a .509 on base percentage. She has 12 RBI, a home run and a double. This is the first year Rodriguez has been eligible for the Academic All-District distinction.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be enrolled at his/her current institution for at least one year, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.00 scale, be a starter or key reserve, and have a minimum of sophomore athletics standing at his/her institution.


 

 

District VIII covers schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, British Columbia and the Yukon.
