Softball Sets Fifth Team Season Record In 10-7 Loss

Boise, Idaho-With four runs driven Friday afternoon, the 2010 San Jose State softball now owns five Spartan single season team records. The Spartans had to come-from-behind the entire game, and even tied the game at 7-7 in the sixth inning, before Boise State won the Western Athletic Conference game 10-7.

The four RBI now give the Spartans a record 223 on the year. San Jose State also owns the single season record for runs scored at 258, doubles with 77, home runs at 33 and walks at 177.

Kelli Fangonilo and Julianne Aiello contributed all four RBI in the record-breaking day and also added to the other records. Fangonilo contributed to four of the five team records on the day. She hit her fifth home run and ninth of her career in the sixth inning which gave her a run scored and an RBI. Fangonilo added a walk in the first inning. Aiello drove in three runs on the day and scored a run on a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

Down 3-0 after the first inning, the Spartans scored two runs in the top of the second to cut the deficit to 3-2. With Breanna Lopez and Natasha Hawkins on after a walk and a double, BranDee Garcia reached on an error that allowed Lopez to score from third. Aiello then drove in her first run of the game on a ground out to the short stop to allow Hawkins to score.

After Boise State expanded the lead to 7-2 after four innings, San Jose State scored four runs in the fifth inning to trail 7-6. With two on, Hawkins single through the left side, and an error by the Bronco left fielder allowed two Spartan runs to cross the plate. With one out, Aiello then came to the plate and hit her second home run of the year.

The Spartans kept battling in the sixth inning. Fangonilo led off the inning with a home run to tie the score at 7-7. Brittany McConnell reached base with an infield single but was stranded on first base to end the inning.

Boise State then used a three-run sixth inning to take the lead at 10-7 and the win. The Spartans got off to a quick start in the seventh as Garcia singled to left field. However, she was stranded at first base as the next three Spartans struck out swinging.

Spartan starting pitcher Amanda Pridmore pitched the first 3.2 innings of the game. She allowed 10 hits, seven runs and two walks while striking out one. Jennifer Ames fell to 4-4 on the year as she pitched 2.1 innings in relief. She allowed just two hits and three runs in her appearance.
