Provo, Utah-Breanna Lopez hit home runs six and seven of the season for the San Jose State softball team who was swept at Brigham Young, 3-2 and 10-2 in six innings, Saturday afternoon in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader.
Lopez hit her sixth home run of the year in the first game of the doubleheader. The shot to right field scored Michelle Cox who had reached base on a single earlier in the first inning. Lopez then hit her second home run of the day and seventh of the year in the second inning of game two, a solo shot to left field. Her seven home runs ties for the fourth highest total in a single season in school history. She needs just one more to tie for the third highest total.
With her two home runs, Lopez now has 13 for her Spartan career, good for third on the San Jose State career home run list. She needs just one to tie Sarah Smith for third place at 14.
In game one, the Spartans took the early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but BYU responded with two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning. BYU scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning. San Jose State was held to just three hits in the game - Lopez's home run and singles by Cox and Cheryl Freitas.
Amanda Pridmore pitched a complete game as her record fell to 16-12. She struck out six batters to increase her season total to 165, good for the fourth-best single season total in school history. Pridmore allowed six hits and walked two as all three runs were unearned.
In game two, Lopez and Cox drove in both Spartan runs. San Jose State had just four hits including two from Lopez. Madison Fish pitched four innings and allowed 10 hits and eight runs as her record fell to 5-3.
