Garcia Honored By WAC For Strong Hitting Week

Denver-San Jose State softball player Jessica Garcia has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the week for April 16-22, after helping lead the Spartans to a 3-1 record last week.

Garcia, the Spartans' starting catcher, hit .563 for the week (9-of-16) with three doubles, one home run and 13 RBI last week. She posted a .588 on-base percentage and a .938 slugging percentage as the Spartans defeated No. 16 Stanford and went 2-1 at Utah State. Garcia had multiple hits in all three games at Utah State and drove in the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning against No. 16 Stanford. She tied the San Jose State single-game record for doubles with three in the final game of the Utah State series, becoming the seventh player in WAC history to hit three doubles in a WAC game. In the Spartans' 11-2 win over the Aggies, Garcia drove in four runs, and in the 9-1 six-inning win, she drove in five runs as she hit her second home run of the season.

San Jose State travels back to the state of Utah this week for four games.  The Spartans play a non-conference game at Utah Valley on Thursday before a three-game WAC series at BYU on Friday and Saturday.
