San Jose, Calif. -- Nichole Schultz earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors (April 13-19) after hitting .833 with three runs, three RBIs, two doubles, one walk and one hit-by-pitch in a three-game sweep of Utah State last weekend. The announcement was made at the Mountain West's conference office in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Tuesday.
Schultz, a senior out of Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nev., was 5-for-6 at the plate, had at least one hit in all three games of the series and multiple hits in two. In eight plate appearances the reached base seven times, a .875 on-base percentage. In addition, she posted a 1.167 slugging percentage.
In Friday's 5-2 victory, the centerfielder was 2-for-2 with a run scored, two RBIs and a walk. Her single in the fourth inning drove in the Spartans' first run of the game.
Schultz was 1-for-1 in Saturday's 10-0, five inning run-rule win. She drove in a run in the third inning when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, then scored three batters later on a wild pitch.
In Sunday's 5-4 series finale, she went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Schultz led off the fourth inning with a double and scored on a single by the next batter to give SJSU a 4-2 lead. She then picked up her second double of the game to open the sixth inning.
This is the first Mountain West Player of the Week honor for Schultz and the third for a Spartan player this season.
Fresno State's Jill Compton was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week.
