Two Home Runs Not Enough In 4-2 Loss

Fresno, Calif.-The Spartan softball team hit two home runs against Fresno State Friday night in a Western Athletic Conference game. However, they were two of the three San Jose State hits of the night in a 4-2 loss to Bulldogs at Bulldog Stadium.

Down 2-0 after three innings, Amanda Schatz came up to the plate in the fourth inning.  With two outs she took the first pitch she saw over the wall in left field.

After Fresno State scored two more runs in the fifth inning, the Spartans score one more in the top of the sixth inning.  BranDee Garcia led the inning off with another Spartan home run to left field to cut the Bulldog lead in half.  With one out, Sadie Coenen then singled to left field for the other Spartan hit of the game.  However, consecutive fly outs to left field left her stranded at first base.

Spartan starter Jennifer Ames pitched the first 4.1 innings, allowing hits, four runs, three earned and struck out three.  Elyssa Fox pitched the final 1.2 innings, striking out two.

The two teams will play at doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
