Pridmore Sets Career Strikeout Record

Ruston, La. – Amanda Pridmore set the San Jose State career strikeout record and a seven run sixth inning propelled the Spartans to a 12-0 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) shutout in six innings at Louisiana Tech.

After striking out three batters in the third inning to tie the record of 644, set by Carol Forbes (2002-05), Pridmore earned her record-breaking fourth strikeout in the fifth inning. She ended the game with five strikeouts and begins Saturday’s doubleheader at 646. Pridmore improved her record to 18-9, scattering four hits in the shutout.

“Pridmore has carried us,” Head Coach Peter Turner said. “She is a great leader with her competitive spirit, and I am extremely proud of her accomplishments.”

Pridmore’s strong performance was supplemented by San Jose State’s control at the plate. The team walked a season-high eight times for the second time this season. The Spartans’ first run came on a bases-loaded walk.

An eight-hit, seven-run sixth inning for San Jose State sealed the victory for the Spartans. The tema hit five extra-base hits, highlighted by Vanessa House’s first homerun of the season.

San Jose State improved to 30-13 on the season and 8-2 in the WAC, marking the eighth time in school history the Spartans reached the 30-win plateau. Louisiana Tech fell to 20-18 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

Michelle Cox extended her hit streak to nine games, the longest for a Spartan this season.

“They had patient at-bats and squared it up,” Turner said. “Tonight, we had talented hitting and pitching and when we hit on all cylinders, we’re difficult to beat.”

San Jose State faces Louisiana Tech tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. (PDT).
