Fullerton, Calif.-In a rainy and windy game Sunday afternoon, the Spartan softball team lost to Pacific 11-3 in five innings at the Judi Garman Softball Classic in Fullerton.
After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning, San Jose State rallied in the second to score there runs and cut the deficit to 4-3. Alex Stange started the inning with a single and eventually scored on a Jessica Garcia single. Amanda Schatz scored the second run of the inning on a Britney Helm single to right field. Garcia scored the final run as an illegal pitch was called on the Pacific pitcher.
Unfortunately, the Spartans got only one hit over the next three innings, a double by Schatz in the fourth inning.
Elyssa Fox pitched the first 3.2 innings of the game as she allowed 11 hits and seven runs and struck out one. Janessa Gutierrez pitched the final two-thirds of an inning, allowing four hits and four runs.
San Jose State is now 12-17 on the season. Pending weather and field conditions, the Spartans are scheduled to host Idaho State in a doubleheader this Tuesday afternoon at 12 p.m. at SJSU Field. The team then opens Western Athletic Conference play on Friday and Saturday at New Mexico State.
