12 Hits In 14-6 Loss To #7-Arizona

Fullerton, Calif.----- San Jose State and #7-ranked Arizona each had a five-run inning and a double-digit hit total, but the Spartans came up on the short end of a 14-6 slugfest in the Judi Garman Softball Classic.

            The game was stopped with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning by the eight-run rule.

            Alex Stange, Annica Wolfe and Jacqueline Zepeda each drove in two runs for the Spartans (12-15) as San Jose State came up with 12 hits. Zepeda was one of three Spartans with two hits. Designated player Cheryl Freitas was 2-for-2 and catcher Amanda Schatz and Zepeda were 2-for-3.

            The Wildcats (26-6) belted three homers, two doubles and a triple in a 16-hit attack for their third win in five tournament games.

            Elyssa Fox (3-7) was the losing pitcher for San Jose State. She gave up 13 hits in 4.2 innings.

            The Spartans take on Illinois Saturday evening to round out first-night's action.
