Softball Loses Two Games Sunday

Stanford-After a record-breaking day on Saturday, the San Jose State softball team did not find many records on Sunday as the team fell to Colorado State, 3-1, and Stanford, 7-2, at the Louisville Slugger Classic hosted by Stanford.

Michelle Cox did extend her hitting streak to 19 games against Colorado State with a hit in the sixth inning, a single to center field.  But, against Stanford, she finished the game 0-for-3 from the plate to set the Spartan hitting streak record at 19 games.

Three was the number of the day for San Jose State as they had just three hits in each game.  The top of the order had all three hits against Colorado State, Markesha Collins, Cox and Vanessa House

Madison Fish started in the circle for the Spartans and pitched the first 4.1 innings.  She allowed five hits and three runs while striking out three.  Amanda Pridmore pitched the final 2.2 innings and struck out three.

Against #10 Stanford, Annica Wolfe had two hits, while Sharon-Renae Estrada had the other hit.  Wolfe started the fifth with a double to left center followed by Estrada's double to left center to score Wolfe.  Amanda Schatz scored the team's first run of the game on a Cardinal wild pitch.

Pitcher Jordan Sauceda made her first collegiate start, pitching the first three innings and allowed four hits and three runs.  Jennifer Ames and Allison Lange each pitched in relief.

San Jose State next plays at the Gaucho Classic II next Friday-Sunday, March 16-18, in Santa Barbara.  The Spartans will face Wisconsin, Oklahoma State and UC Santa Barbara over the three days.
