San Jose, Calif. – For her pitching performances in leading the Spartans to a 3-0 record last week, San José State junior Madison Aurin has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week for games from February 28 through March 4.
In 14.1 innings of work, the Bakersfield, Calif., native posted a 0.00 ERA allowing just four hits while striking out seven to post a 2-0 record with a save.
Aurin, a down ball pitcher, started the week with a complete game 9-0 win at Santa Clara. In the six-inning run rule victory, the lefty limited the Broncos to just one hit, struck out five and did not allow a ball out of the infield.
In a 3-0 complete game win over Wagner in the Louisville Slugger Tournament, she gave up two hits, struck out two and did not have a ball leave the infield.
Finally, in the team’s 4-2 victory against Providence, Aurin entered the game with two outs in the sixth, and recorded the last four outs to pick up her first save of the season and her career.
For the week, Aurin faced 51 batters and only one was able to get the ball out of the infield, a fly out to in the seventh inning of the win over Providence.
This is the first Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honor for Aurin, who earned MW Player of the Week honors last season, and the first honor for a Spartan this season.
