The Spartan softball team takes its winning record this weekend to the Eller Media Stadium Classic hosted by UNLV this weekend in Las Vegas. The Spartans will play five games over three days. On Friday, San Jose State will face Bradley at 11:15 a.m. and Kansas at 1:30 p.m. Bradley enters the weekend with a 3-11 overall record after playing at the UTEP Invitational last weekend. Kansas is 14-1 on the season after going 4-1 last weekend at the UNCG Spartan Classic.
The Spartans face San Diego Saturday at 3:45 p.m., and Troy at 8:15 p.m. The Torreros begin the tournament with a 2-3 record, while the Trojans have an 11-3 record after going 4-0 last weekend at the Southern Miss Tournament.
San Jose State and host UNLV close out the tournament on Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. game. The Rebels went 2-1 last weekend at the Amy S. Harrison Classic hosted by UC Riverside.
Alex Stange continues to lead the Spartans in hitting with a .417 average and a team-best 15 hits. She has a .472 slugging percentage and a .476 on-base percentage. Britney Helm is the team leader in runs scored with 12 and is one of three Spartans with two home runs on the season (Annica Wolfe and Cheryl Freitas). BranDee Garcia is second on the team with 14 hits.
In the circle, Jennifer Ames leads the team with a 2.65 ERA in nine appearances. She has seven games started and four complete games with a 3-3 record and two saves. In 42.1 innings pitched, she has 16 strikeouts and allowed just 24 runs, 16 earned. Elyssa Fox has a 2.70 ERA with a 2-3 record in six appearances. She has struck out 14 in 23.1 innings pitched. Janessa Gutierrez is 2-1 on the year in eight appearances with a 6.05 ERA and 13 strikeouts. Alex Molina is 1-0 on the year in 8.2 innings pitched with a 2.42 ERA and a 1-0 record (a shutout of Cal State Bakersfield).
