Cox started the Spartan scoring in the fourth inning. She started the inning with a triple to right center field, her second of the season, and scored on a Jessica Garcia sacrifice fly to left field.
House then led off the sixth inning with a home run to center field for the second Spartan run of the day.
Spartan pitcher Jennifer Ames worked the first five inning in the circle, allowing nine hits and eight runs, five earned, while striking out three. Allison Lang pitched the final inning and did not allow a hit.
San Jose State is now 7-9 overall and returns to action this weekend at the Deanna Mauer Super Series at SJSU Field. The Spartans play a doubleheader on Friday against Southern Utah Friday beginning at noon. On Saturday, the team faces Southern Utah at 11:15 a.m., and Santa Clara at 1:30 p.m. The Spartans wrap up the weekend with a game against Santa Clara Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
Also on Saturday, the dedication of the Deanna Mauer Memorial Patio will take place at 11:00 a.m., at the patio located beyond the left field fence at SJSU Field. Mauer died in a car crash last April in Southern California. She pitched at San Jose State during the 2008 and 2009 seasons and holds the school record for strikeouts in a game with 15. Her parents, Dawn and Howard, will be on hand along with friends and family for the dedication of the patio.
