Changes To Softball Schedule At Libby Matson Tournament

With the threat of rain at 100 percent, the San Jose State softball schedule for this weekend's Libby Matson Tournament has changed.  Below are the new dates and times for the games.  There will be no games on Friday and the Spartans will play #13 Oregon on Monday.

 

Saturday, February 26 - San Jose State vs. #13 Oregon - 2:00 p.m.

Sunday, February 27 - San Jose State vs. Pacific, 12:00 p.m.

Monday, February 28 - San Jose State vs. #13 Oregon, 10:00 a.m.

San Jose State enters the weekend's games with an 8-4 record after winning six games last weekend, four at Cal State Bakersfield and two at SJSU Field against Santa Clara.  Pitchers Jennifer Ames and Elyssa Fox were each 2-0 on the weekend with Ames also recording a save.

 

For her pitching efforts last weekend, Ames was named the WAC Pitcher of the Week.  She had a 0.48 ERA with three strikeouts and eight walks. Ames allowed just one earned run and two runs total in 14.2 innings pitched.  Her save came in relief of Fox in the second game last Friday.

 

Alex Stange led the team last week as she hit .571 with eight hits including two doubles and three runs batted in.  BranDee Garcia hit .389 with seven hits and three runs scored, while Annica Wolfe had a .375 average with six hits.  Britney Helm scored six runs with six hits and four walks.

 

Stange leads the team in hitting with a .448 batting average.    She and BranDee Garcia each have a team-best 13 hits.  Stange also has a .517 slugging and a .485 on-base percentage.  Wolfe is hitting .357 with 10 hits, while Garcia is hitting .351.  Cheryl Freitas leads the team with two homes and a .556 slugging percentage.  Helm is the team leader with 10 runs scored and seven walks.

 

The Spartans have also been prolific in stealing bases this season.  The team enters the weekend 21-for-21 in thievery with BranDee Garcia, Helm and Sadie Coenen each with four stolen bases, while Markesha Collins has three.

 

In the circle, Ames has a 1.51 ERA with a 3-2 record, four complete games and two saves.  She has pitched 37 innings and struck out 14.  Fox has a 2.38 ERA and a 2-2 record in 17.2 innings pitched.  Janessa Gutierrez has a 2-0 record in 16 innings pitched, while Alex Molina is 1-0 with an 0.84 ERA in two appearances (one start, one relief).
