San Jose, Calif. – The San Jose State softball team heads to Phoenix, Ariz., to compete in Grand Canyon University’s GCU Invitational Thursday through Saturday. The Spartans enter the weekend 5-5 overall after splitting its games at the Kajikawa Classic (3-3) and DiMarini Classic (2-2) the last two weekends.
San Jose State is batting .254 as a team and slugging .331. Cassidy Clark leads the team with a .318 average (7-of-22). Madison Aurin has a team-best 10 hits and is hitting .313. Casey Watt has driven in a team-high six runs.
In the circle, the staff has an ERA of 4.66 and opponents are hitting .355 of them. Colette Riggs in 1-1 with a 2.75 ERA. In 16.0 innings she has struck out 12. Katelyn Linford has a 3.67 ERA and a 3-1 record. Linford has struck out 27 in 27.0 innings.

The Antelopes are 10-1 and went 4-1 in last week’s Getterman Classic in Waco, Texas. The team’s lone loss this year is a 1-0 decision against #23 Baylor.
As a team they are hitting .322 with a .440 slugging percentage and have outscored opponents 62-29. In the circle GCU pitchers have a 2.51 ERA and opponents hitting .245 off them.
Ann Pierson is in her 14th season at the helm of the Grand Canyon program. She had a 382-298 career-record, all at GCU, entering this season. These will be the first two meetings between these programs.

The Rams competed in the Houston (Texas) Classic last week. They went 1-4, were outscored 51-13 and were run-ruled three times.
As a team they are hitting .226 with a .425 slugging percentage. Their pitchers have an 11.58 ERA with opposing batters hitting .425 of them.
Bridget Hurlman is in her second season leading the Rhode Island program. Last year, in her first season as a head coach, she posted a 12-32 record. This will be the third meeting between the Spartans and Rams, with SJSU holding a 2-0 advantage in the series.

The Vikings competed in the Mercer Invitational in Macon, Georgia, two weeks ago and lost all five of their games. They were outscored 38-6 and were run-ruled three times.
As a team they are hitting .165 with a .226 slugging percentage. They have a team ERA of 6.92 with opposing batters hitting .339 off them.
Meadow McWhorter is in her first season leading the Vikings program and her first as a Division I head coach. Portland State holds a 12-8 advantage in the all-time series.
