Softball Loses 2-1 In 8 to #15 Texas A&M

Tempe, Ariz.-Spartan pitcher Amanda Pridmore struck out 10 Texas A&M batters, but the 15th-ranked Aggies scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the San Jose State softball team 2-1 Saturday night at the Kajikawa Classic.  Earlier in the day, the Spartans fell to #16 Oregon 9-0 in five innings.

Against Texas A&M, the Spartans scored in the top of the fourth inning.  Jessica Garcia led the inning off with a double to right field, advanced to third on an Annica Wolfe sacrifice bunt and scored on a Markesha Collins single through the left side.  San Jose State stranded two runners in the inning.

After the Aggies tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth, neither team could score in the next two innings before going to the international tie-breaker rule in the eighth inning.  In the Spartan eighth, BranDee Garcia started on second and advanced to third on an Amanda Schatz ground out.  However, Garcia was stranded on third.

Texas A&M scored in the bottom of the inning on a single through the left side to win the game.

Pridmore pitched her third complete game of the weekend as she allowed just three hits and two runs, one earned, striking out 10 and walking just four.

Earlier in the day, the Spartans recorded just four hits in the loss to Oregon.  Jessica Garcia, Annica Wolfe, Lopez each had singles, while Alex Stange hit a double for San Jose State.

San Jose State stranded eighth runners in the game, including leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and third innings.

Pitcher Jennifer Ames started the game and pitched 3.1 innings.  She allowed eight hits, five runs and four walks as her record fell to 0-2.

San Jose State plays next weekend at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas.
