San José, Calif.--In their final home game at SJSU Field, the San José State softball seniors ended their careers with a 5-3 win over New Mexico in a Mountain West game and ended the season with a six-game winning streak.

Senior Anissa Pinedo drove in three of the five Spartan runs including the final run of the game.  Pinedo singled home two of the three Spartan runs in the first inning with a single, scoring fellow seniors Taylor Purdy and Jessie Hufstetler.  In the fifth inning, Pinedo singled up the middle to drive in Hufstetler again.

Seven Spartan seniors saw action on the field Saturday - Hufstetler, Casey Lester, Jessica Madrid, Alyssa Martinez, Pinedo, Purdy and Erin Rodriguez.  Pinedo led the team at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Martinez, Madrid and Purdy each had a hit.

After New Mexico took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Michala Erickson home run, the Spartans responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 3-1.  The Lobos tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the third inning, and SJSU starting pitcher Emily Rogers was replaced by Katelyn Linford.  With the bases loaded at the time, Linford came in and struck out pinch hitter Chelsea Johnson to end the inning.

Linford finished the game in the circle, pitching 4.1 innings of relief as she finished the year with a 10-10 record.  She struck out five batters and did not issue a walk or allow a run.  Linford ends the season with a team-best 97 strikeouts.

The Spartans took the lead for good in the fifth inning with runs scored by Martinez and Hufstetler.

With the win, San José State ends the season at 28-24 overall and 17-7 in the conference. The Spartans finish in second place in the Mountain West standings behind champion Fresno State.

The Spartans set numerous single-season team records including home runs at 58, slugging percentage at .536, hit by pitch at 44, runs scored at 371, RBI at 335 and total bases at 773.  The team also tied the single-season record for doubles with 94.
