Final Stats

Santa Clara, Calif. – Following a rainout on Saturday, the San Jose State Spartans and Colorado State Rams played two on Sunday with CSU taking game one 5-0 and the SJSU combing back in the second game for a 3-2 victory.

San Jose State finishes the weekend with a 24-14 record, 4-5 in Mountain West action. Colorado State is 18-13 and 6-6 in conference play.

Colorado State scored five runs in the top of the first inning and that would be all they would need in a 5-0 victory.

CSU got a lead off single and then with one out successive walks loaded the bases against Spartans starter Katelyn Linford (15-6). Taryn Arcarese then drove in the first run of the game with a single to left. The next batter, Madison Kilcrease hit a shot down the left field line. Left fielder Chelsea Jenner dove for the ball, but it got past her and by the time the Spartans could recover, Kilcrease had circled the bases for an inside the park grand slam and a 5-0 lead.

In the inning, Linford would strike out two en route to a 10-strikeout game, her fourth this season with double digit strikeouts. After surrendering three hits in the first, CSU didn’t get another hit off Linford until the fifth, when they picked up two more.

The Spartans got just three hits, singles by Cassidy Clark in the second, Madison Aurin in the fourth and Jenner in the fifth. They also worked Rams’ starter Bridgette Hutton (5-6) for five walks and had runners in scoring position three times, but went 0-for-5 with a chance to drive in runs.

In the top of the next inning, Colorado State came right back with a pair of runs. A single and stolen base, followed by a strikeout and RBI double tied the game 1-1. Two batters later an RBI single gave the Rams a 2-1 lead.
