San Diego, Calif. – The San Jose State softball team scored six run in the top of the first, gave back one in the bottom of the frame and from there cruised to a 6-1 win against the University of San Diego Torreros in the final game of the San Diego Classic.

SJSU (11-9) sent 10 players to the plate in its first at bat. Kristen Heffley, Casey Watt (2-for-4, R) and Brittany Abacherli each singled to open the innings, and Heffley (1-for-4, R) scored on a fielding error on Abacherli’s hit.

Madison Aurin (1-for-4, R, RBI) then singled in Watt to make it 2-0. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Georgia Blair (2-for-2, R, 2RBI) doubled in two more and it was 4-0. Cassidy Clark (0-for-3, RBI) hit a sacrifice fly to plate the fifth run and Emma Entzminger (2-for-3, R) singled in the six run.

In the bottom of the inning, Katelyn Linford struck out the first two batters she faced. An error by Entzminger extended the inning and the next Torerros’ batter tripled in an unearned run to make it 6-1.

Linford scattered five more hits over the next six innings, struck out a total of eight and allowed no walks, to earn the win and improve to 6-2 on the year.
