Final Stats

Stockton, Calif. – The San Jose State softball team had high hopes of getting in two games at the Louisville Slugger Tournament on Saturday, but rain and lightning doused those expectations. In the end, the SJSU played and won its only game of the day, 3-0 over Wagner.

San Jose State 3, Wagner 0

Madison Aurin limited the Wagner Seahawks to two hits and drove in the game winning run in the Spartans 3-0 victory.

Aurin (3-6) set down the first nine batters she faced, before giving up a single to open the fourth inning. An error by shortstop Emma Entzminger, allowed the Seahawks to get a runner in scoring position, but Aurin induced a double play and followed that with a popup to first to strand a runner on third.

Wagner (2-4) threatened again in the fifth. After loading the bases with one out on a hit, hit by pitch and an error by Rayohna Sagapolu, Alyssa Avila threw behind the runner at second and Cassidy Clark applied the tag for the second out of the inning. Aurin ended the threat with her second strikeout of the game and set Wagner down in order in the final two innings.

Offensively, the Spartans (11-7) banged out 10 hits led by Desiree Reyes who went 3-for-3 with a double and a run.

Entzminger (1-for-4, R) led of the game for SJSU with a single to left center. A groundout and fly out moved her to third. Aurin (1-for-3, RBI) singled up the middle driving in Entzminger and giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

After Georgia Blair (1-for-3) singled and Kaelin Amrein (1-for-2) walked, the bases were loaded, but a strikeout kept SJSU from a bigger inning.

In the second the Spartans scored two more runs. Avila (1-for-2, R) singled and Reyes doubled to set the San José State up with runners on second and third and no outs.

Entzminger then reached on an infield error, and on the play Avila score an unearned run. Two batters later Clark singled to right center driving in Reyes to make the score 3-0 SJSU.

That was all the offense the Spartans would need in winning their 11th game of the year.
