2017 SAMMY Awards Honors Best Of San Jose State University Athletics

The SAMMYS were handed out for academic, athletics and community service excellence.

SPARTAN NOTES: Completed her Spartans career in 2017...the fourth player in program history to earn All-America honors…finished her career ranked fourth in strikeouts (388), strikeouts per seven innings (5.37), batters faced (2,276) and appearances (122), fifth in wins (50) and saves (5), sixth in starts (82), seventh in innings pitched (505.1) and tied for first in combined shutouts…in 2017 enjoyed one of the greatest seasons for an SJSU pitcher ranking third on the single-season lists in wins (24) and strikeouts per seven innings (6.43), fourth in strikeouts (194) and combined saves (2), fifth in saves (4) and appearances (46), sixth in shutouts (6) and innings pitched (211.1), and ninth in starts (30)…tossed the program’s 12th no-hitter - vs. Nevada (3/18/17), an 8-0, five inning victory.

2017: Made a team-leading 30 starts in 43 total appearances…compiled a 24-8 record with a 2.45 ERA in 211.1 innings of work, all career-bests…struck out 194 while walking just 32…allowed 192 hits and 88 runs, 74 of which were earned…tossed a complete game three-hitter and was the winning pitcher in the Spartans 3-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton (5/19) in the NCAA Regional, the first postseason win in program history…threw the program’s first no-hitter in 12 seasons and the 12th in program history in an 8-0 win over Nevada (3/18)…led the team with four saves – vs. UTEP (2/19), vs. Boston U (3/3), vs. UMass (3/10) and Princeton (3/23)…from March 5 to March 19 won seven consecutive starts, all complete game victories, in 48 innings she posted an .083 ERA, struck out 44 and walked only four batters…had four games in which she posted double digit strikeouts – vs. Creighton (2/9), vs. Nevada (3/17), at San Diego State (3/31) & vs. Colorado State (4/9)…averaged 4.91 innings per outing…strikeout to walk ratio was 6.1:1…among Mountain West pitchers, finished the regular season ranked second in ERA, innings, strikeouts, wins and appearances; was third in saves, starts, batters struck out looking; fourth in opponents batting average; fifth in games finished and 14th in games in relief…recorded five putouts and 47 assists. 2016: Made 22 starts in 31 total appearances…compiled a 10-10 record with a 5.08 ERA in 122.2 innings of work…allowed 147 hits and 104 runs, 89 earned…struck out 97 and walked 55…averaged 3.96 innings of work per outing and had a strikeout to walk ration of 1.8:1…struck out a season-high 12 batters in a complete game 4-1 victory over New Mexico (5/12)…tossed five complete games – vs. Northwestern (3/5), at Colorado State (4/3), at Nevada (4/22), vs. Fresno State (5/1) and vs. New Mexico (5/12)- posting a 4-1 record in those contests…in six consecutive starts from March 29 to April 24 the team won five-of-six…in 14 of 22 starts, she went at least 4.0 innings…recorded three putouts and 25 assists. 2015: Made 18 appearances and eight starts...compiled a 7-4 record and 6.06 ERA in 52.0 innings of work...went 3-3 as a starter...allowed 68 hits and 45 earned runs...struck out 33 and walked 25...tossed two complete game wins; vs. Loyola Chicago (2/14) and Nevada (5/3)...stuck out a career-high nine batters in the Nevada win...1.3 strikeout to walk ratio was second best on the staff...allowed five hits and no runs in 6.2 innings to combine on a 7-0 shutout of Illinois-Chicago (2/20)...worked three innings of shutout relief in a 9-1 win over Boise State (3/20)...in nine appearances from 3/20 to 5/7 went 5-0 with a 2.41 ERA. 2014: Team-high 22 starts with 30 appearances totaling 119.1 innings...4.87 ERA with a 9-12 record, one save and one combined shutout...Allowed 83 earned runs, leading the pitching staff with 64 strikeouts...Six complete games... Complete game win with season-high eight innings pitched at Nevada (4/27), when she allowed two earned runs with five strikeouts...Fanned a season-best six versus UTEP (3/1)...Two-hit New Mexico State (3/13) in a complete game win striking out five batters...Allowed one run and four hits with four strikeouts in a complete game win against Princeton (3/16).
