San Jose, Calif.----Defender Jessica Ingram and forward Kelsey Lord received 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru All-West honors for their efforts on the San Jose State women's soccer team during the 2010 season. Ingram finds herself on the second team while Lord has earned a third-team spot.
In her third season with the Spartans, junior Jessica Ingram from San Jose, Calif. (Santa Teresa HS) is highly decorated, earning WAC Defensive Player of the Year (2009), and becoming a two-time first team All-WAC honoree. She anchored a defense that went undefeated at home in WAC play this season.
"I'm really proud of the recognition for Jessica (Ingram)," explained head coach Jeff Leightman. "She had another very good season, and has clearly shown she is one of the best players in the region, and for other coaches to recognize that, is fantastic."
"She is rock solid in our backline and was dynamite in the second half of the season. She is obviously one of the, if not the best, defender in our conference and certainly the region. She is well deserving of the recognition."
Lord, a sophomore from Livermore, Calif. (Granada HS), earned first team All-WAC this season. She led the team this year in points (29), knocking in nine goals and with a conference-best 11 assists.
"Kelsey Lord had a fantastic season this year," added coach Leightman. "She was very nicked up and injured most of the year, but still persevered through that and did a great job. She was pretty much a thorn in every opponent's side and she was someone you had to account for with speed and dynamic attacking ability."
"She was really a challenge for the other teams to deal with. I think that's the best part of being an affective striker, is really being on everyone's scouting report and still doing damage."
The Spartans' season ended with a tie against Fresno State in the championship match of the Western Athletic Conference Soccer Tournament on November 7. A 3-1 penalty shootout concluded a memorable season for the Spartans, clinching the program's second regular-season conference title in back-to-back seasons, while breaking a team mark for most single-season WAC wins with six.
