San Jose State's Senior Night was an emotional one for the players. "I couldn't believe it was my last home game," added senior Katie Knopp. "It was exciting to have my grandma and family here today. My grandma doesn't make it to many games, so it was great to score today, and get the win."
Knopp scored the final goal in the 56:17 mark off an assist from Kelsey Lord, sealing the victory at 3-0.
After the Spartans went up 1-0 in the 23rd minute, off an own-goal from a Jessica Ingram cross, defender Sara Fraser took a header through the bottom left corner past goalkeeper Megan Blanchard to score her first-career goal, and the second goal of the game at 38:48. Stephanie Bales and Megan Molina added assists on the goal.
San Jose State out-shot Boise State on the afternoon, 20-9, with Knopp and Lord contributing a game-high four shots each.
All four San Jose State seniors, who were recognized prior to kick-off, saw action in the match. The WAC champion class includes Katie Knopp, Stephanie Righetti, Lauren Ng-Pinkerton, and Kim Johnston.
In addition to its outright conference regular-season championship, today's result earns San Jose State the top seed and a subsequent first-round bye at next week's WAC Tournament in Ruston, Louisiana. Number one seeded San Jose State will play the winner of Match 2, Louisiana Tech or Boise State, in Match 4 on Friday, November 5 at 3:00 p.m.
"I told the team to celebrate and to learn and remember the past and make your future," stated coach Leightman. "We need to remember what happened last year, learn from it, but we are also in charge of our future. We write the future, and lets write a great future."
