Boise, Idaho - The San Jose State University women's soccer team (11-5-3, 5-1-2 WAC) lost, 1-0, to the Boise State Broncos (10-6-4, 5-3 WAC) at the Boas Soccer Complex on Sunday, November 1.
San Jose State clinched its first regular-season Western Athletic Conference championship with an emotional win Friday on Senior Night, but saw its school-record 14 game unbeaten streak end on Sunday.
The only goal of the game came three minutes before halftime, when Boise State's Erica Parks took advantage of a Spartan miscommunication at the back, creating an open-net opportunity. Spartan goalie Nina Butera made amends throughout the game, making six saves and refusing to let in another goal.
Kelsey Lord, Shanelle Furner and Emmy Belding got shots on target, but Boise State's goalie, Jennifer Burns, made all three saves. The Broncos out-shot the Spartans, 26-7, on the afternoon.
The loss prevented the Spartans from achieving their first undefeated WAC campaign in program history, but had no effect on the overall conference standings. The Spartans earned a first-round bye in the upcoming WAC Tournament in Boise, Idaho.
The Spartans will play next as the top seed in a WAC Tournament semifinal game on Friday, November 6, at 11:30 a.m. Pacific time.
