Colorado Springs, Colo. --- A program-record tying six members of the San José State women’s soccer team have received an All-Mountain West award at the conclusion of the 2016-17 regular season.
Dorthe Hoppius is an All-Conference First Team choice, while Kristen Amarikwa, Maricruz Chapa, Alexis Venegas and Myia Wilkes all received second-team honors. Additionally, Yaritza Arista joins Amarikwa on the Mountain West All-Newcomer Team.
The group of award winners ties the program’s highest all-conference honoree total from a year ago. The news comes days after the Spartans clinched the #2-seed and a first-round bye in this week’s MW Championship Tournament.
It is the second year in a row for Hoppius to be named a First-Team All-Conference forward. She is one of only two players this season to have been on the First Team twice.

The native of Dorsten, Germany finished second among all players during league play with six goals and 15 points. She ended the year as San José State’s overall leader with eight goals and 21 points.
Venegas equaled Hoppius’ goals and points totals during conference action, and was given her first all-conference award of her Spartan career.
Chapa took second-team honors with a pair of assists and two goals, including a game-winner, during conference play as a midfielder. Fellow midfielder Arista also scored twice and had three helpers on the way to making the All-Newcomer Team.
Wilkes took on the opponents’ top attacker week in and week out during the conference slate. The junior was given her first all-conference award during her Spartan career.
Helping Wilkes on the backline was the freshman Amarikwa. She started every match throughout the entire season, and proved that she was not only an excellent defender, but scored two goals and registered an assist during league play. Amarikwa was honored as an All-MW second-team defender and put on the All-Newcomer Team.
The six honorees and the #2-seeded San José State women’s soccer team will lace up Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. (PT) in the semifinal match at the Mountain West Championship Tournament in San Diego, Calif. The Spartans await the winner of #6-Boise State and #3-San Diego State.
