Houston, Texas—Rice’s Erin Droeger scored in the 13th minute of the match, and the solo goal stood as the only goal of the match as the Owls defeated the San Jose State women’s soccer team, 1-0, Friday evening in Houston.

Droeger scored on a 35-yard shot that went into the goal over the leaping reach of Spartan goalie Adrienne Herbst. Droeger got the ball on a pass from Maria Fadool.

Herbst had nine saves for the Spartans. The team took 11 shots in the match, four on goal.

San Jose State is now 5-12-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the WAC. The team finishes the season with a match Sunday afternoon at Tulsa.
