Women's soccer loses season finale, 2-1, in overtime to Saint Mary's

San Jose, Calif.-----Shauna Rech fired a shot into the top left corner of the net 3:16 into the first overtime as Saint Mary’s College defeated San Jose State University, 2-1 in overtime, in a non-conference women’s soccer match.

Rech took a pass from Sarah Burgess and fired the ball past Spartan goalkeeper Erin Lavey for her second goal of the season and the game-winner.

Lavey had a busy afternoon in goal making eight saves for San Jose State. On two occasions, she made multiple saves off of Saint Mary’s scoring chances.

The Spartans (2-16-0), who concluded their season, scored the game’s first goal at 14:34 as Alaina Chandler converted a pass from Christine Morrison in front of Gaels’ netminder Alicia Artuso. Chandler’s third goal of the season was the Spartans’ first score in four games.

Saint Mary’s (8-7-2) tied the game early in the second half as Jen Belzer scored her first goal of the season from assists by McKenna Belzer and Chelsea Montero at 49:40.
