Logan, Utah - Senior tri-captain Kristin Krale broke the all-time school record with her 79th career start as the San Jose State University women’s soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Utah State University in a Western Athletic Conference match at Chuck & Gloria Bell Soccer Field on Sunday, October 28.
Krale, the Spartans' central defensive anchor and a San Jose native out of Independence High School, eclipsed the school mark of 78 starts that Jackie Ostdiek had set between 1997-2000. She has not missed a single game since her freshman year began in 2004.
San Jose State is now 4-12-2 overall and 2-3 in the WAC. Utah State improves to 8-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Utah State took a 2-0 edge into the halftime break following a pair of rebound put-backs around the Spartan six-yard box, from Lauren Hansen in the 12th minute and Heather Pond in the 39th. Abby Hunt was credited with the assist on what was Hansen’s sixth of the season, while Sydne Porter’s free kick set up Pond’s first of 2007.
The Aggies put the result out of doubt with a couple of late goals, Candice Clark scoring her fourth of the year in the 84th minute on a breakaway and shot from 15 yards out, with Jessie Malaska on the assist, before Lacey Christenson added her first of the year at 85 minutes. Kiersten Nilsson provided the assist.
Danielle Drago, a freshman out of Saint Francis High School, provided a team-high three shots off the bench for San Jose State, while junior forward Jessica Scott, the team’s leading scorer, adding a pair. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Nina Butera collected five saves.
Hansen finished with a game-high four shots for the home side, who out-shot the Spartans as a team, 16-9. Ali Griffin made five stops in earning the individual shutout.
San Jose State now returns home one final time for the 2007 season, hosting league opponents Idaho on Friday, November 2, at 5:00 p.m., and Boise State on Sunday, November 4, at 3:30 p.m., on Senior Day. Both matches are set to be played inside Spartan Stadium.
