Women's soccer defeated by Washington State, 3-1

SAN JOSE, Calif.—. The Washington State Cougars defeated San Jose State University 3-1, in a women’s soccer match up Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.
The teams took a 1-1 tie into the second half, but it was the Cougars who took control of the game to secure the win.

The Cougars broke a 1-1 tie at 60:06 into the second half with a goal off the head of Mariette Boyce. Another Cougar goal off a penalty kick just over five minutes later gave Washington State the two goal victory.

The Spartan’s lone goal came at 37:28 in the first half, when Marie MacCann blasted a free kick past Cougar goalie Sara Leibowitz. The goal was the first on the year for MacCann and at the time tied the score at 1-1.

The Cougars out shot the Spartans on the after noon 18-11. San Jose State was also out corner kicked 10-1.

The Spartans next game will be a Friday, Sept. 20 match up with the University of Vermont in the Bay Area Classic, game time is 7:00p.m. at Spartan Stadium. The team will also play a 1:30p.m. game with UC Santa Barbara the following Sunday Sept. 22.
