SAN JOSE, Calif.—San Francisco mid fielder Stacy Caro scored on a penalty kick at the 83:48 mark in the second half to give the Dons (2-1) a 2-1 victory over San Jose State (1-2) Friday night at Spartan Stadium. After being taken down in the box Caro blasted her penalty kick shot past Spartan goalie Erin Lavey for the game-winning goal.

"It was a disappointing loss, said Spartan head coach Tamie Grimes. "That was a really hard fought game both teams had some good opportunities to score."

The first half was a back and forth affair with neither team able to capitalize on scoring chances. The Dons out shot the Spartans in the first period 9-4.

USF was able to find the net first in the second half. A rocket off the foot of Ashley Davies tipped off the fingers of Lavey into the back of the net for a 1-0 advantage.

A little over ten minutes later the Spartans would get on the board for the first and final time of the night. Alaina Chandler’s nice run down the left side ended when she connected with a streaking Mariko Yoshihara in the box, Mariko redirected the ball with her right foot for her third goal of the season.

San Jose State travels to the University of the Pacific next Friday, Sept. 13 for their next match. The team will host Washington State next Sunday, Sept. 15 at Spartan Stadium with a 12:00 p.m. start.
