With the draw, the Spartans extended their school-record unbeaten streak to 11 games (8-0-3) but dropped them to second-place in the conference behind front-running New Mexico State. The tie also extends the teams road unbeaten streak to six games, another school record. The Spartans are now 8-4-3, 3-0-2 in WAC play, while Utah State is 8-7-2, 3-1-1 in the WAC.
The Spartans opened the game's scoring early in the second half when went one-on-one with Utah State's goalie Molli Merrill, beating her to the left for her team-leading seventh tally of the season. Belding's goal in the 47th minute, assisted by freshman Kelsey Lord, ended up being the only blemish for Merrill, who had an efficient afternoon, making two saves.Emmy Belding
San Jose State was just two minutes away from knocking off the defending league champion Aggies until forward Shantel Flanary, the 2008 WAC Freshman of the Year, pushed one past Spartan keeper in the 88th minute, leveling the match at 1-1. The team will return to Spartan Stadium this Friday, October 23, to battle visiting conference foe Idaho at 7:00 p.m. before heading down south to play at Cal State Bakersfield in a non-league game on Sunday.
