Liz Behlen named WAC "Offensive Player of the Week"

DENVER, Colo. San Jose State forward Liz Behlen has been named the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference women’s soccer “Offensive Player of the Week.”

Behlen, a freshman out of Sunnyvale, Calif., and St. Francis High School, scored twice in a 4-2 home win over Utah State on Friday, October 14, and once in a 4-0 road shutout at Louisiana Tech on Sunday, October 16. She registered the first and fourth goals against the Aggies and capped off the victory in Louisiana with her team-leading sixth goal of 2005. Along with her assist against the Lady Techsters, Behlen recorded seven total points for the week. In addition to goals scored, she leads the team in assists with three and total points with 15, and is also tied with fellow freshman Jessica Scott in shots with 34 each.

The weekly conference honor was the first of the 2005 campaign for a Spartan women’s soccer player. Senior goalkeeper Adrienne Herbst was the last SJSU player to earn the distinction, on October 11, 2004.

Fresno State goalkeeper Angie Larsen was named the Xbox Live WAC “Defensive Player of the Week.” Other defensive nominees included Herbst, who made five saves in notching her third shutout of the season in Sunday’s win at Louisiana Tech.
