Women's Soccer Blanks CSU Bakersfield

The Spartans first goal came at the 6:49 mark when a pair of freshmen hooked up one their first collegiate points. Center mid Lauren Sanchez took a long lob pass from defender Angela Santoro and blasted a shot from the right side of the penalty box into the near corner to give the Spartans a, 1-0, lead.

“Bakersfield cleared a corner kick by Roxy (Kamal),” Sanchez said. “Angela (Santoro) came from the back and played a perfect ball. I was right there and it seemed like there were no defenders around so I put it in.”

“Each game our momentum and energy is a lot better,” she added. “Early on our energy level was a problem but as the season progresses we are raising our energy level and getting more comfortable with Coach Leightman’s system.”

Kamal outran the defender and from inside the penalty box shot into the lower left corner for her first goal of the year and the first of her career. At the 58:41 mark San Jose State had a 2-0 lead.

“I have a special bond with Roxy,” said Boehm. “She definitely gets open for you. I love playing to feet and that’s what she likes too, so when I see Roxy I know to play to her feet. She does pretty good things with the ball if you get it to her.”
