5 Mariko Yoshihara

SJSU: In her third season at San Jose State. Mariko Yoshihara played in 6 games and started once last season. She had one assist, in an 8-1 win at Nevada on Oct. 1. She redshirted the 1999 season.

HIGH SCHOOL: Yoshihara was a four-year letterwinner in soccer and volleyball, lettered twice in track and once in cross country at Prospect High School in San Jose. In soccer she was twice named first team all-league and was a second team all-league pick once. She was named the team’s “Most Valuable Player” and holds the school records for goals and assists in a season. She was also named the team’s MVP and was a first-team all-league pick in track, and is the school record holder for cross country. She was named Prospect’s Athlete of the Year.

PERSONAL: Mariko June Yoshihara was born on Nov. 22, 1981, in Hayward, Calif. Her parents are Hideki and Karen Yoshihara. She has a sister, Naomi, 22. She is majoring in psychology with a criminal justice administration minor and is an SJSU Scholar-Athlete. Her favorite activities include collecting coins, gardening and knitting.
