Tamie Grimes

Tamie Grimes is in her second season as head coach of the women’s soccer team. She was named the head coach on January 18, 2001 after serving as interim head coach last season.

Last season Grimes led the Spartans to the 2000 Western Athletic Conference tournament title and the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth. Prior to being named interim head coach, she was an assistant coach at San Jose State for two seasons. She was a graduate assistant coach at San Jose State in 1998 and was an assistant coach in 1999.

Grimes has been involved in women’s soccer coaching in Santa Clara County for the last 11 years. Soon after her collegiate playing career ended in 1990, she began her coaching career as the co-head coach of the Homestead High School girls soccer team. She held that position for five years and, concurrently, was an assistant coach for the West Valley Jaguars club soccer team from 1990 to 1993. Grimes also was a trainer for the Sunnyvale Roadrunners and Portola Valley Flash club soccer teams. Homestead High won the Central Coast Section championship in three of the five years Grimes was co-head coach.

Grimes lettered in soccer four years at Santa Clara University. She was named the "Most Valuable Player" on the 1989 team and the "Most Valuable Defensive Player" on the 1990 squad. Both teams advanced to the NCAA Women's Soccer Final Four. She was also named the team’s MVP in her freshman season, when she recorded 17 assists (a school record that stood for nine years) and scored seven goals. In 1989 and 1990, she was an All-West first-team pick, was named to the All-NCAA Semifinals/Finals squad, and was an Adidas Academic All-American selection. Grimes also played softball for four years at Santa Clara.

Grimes played one year (1993) with the United States Senior National Team, and played on local clubs teams, the California Tremors and California Storm, from 1990 through 1998.

Grimes graduated from Santa Clara in 1991 with a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in Spanish. She and her husband, Scott, reside in Scotts Valley, Calif. with their one-year-old daughter, Jordyn.
