SJSU: In her third season at San Jose State. 2000: Jessica Hernandez played in 23 games and started 16 last season. 1999: Hernandez was named a co-Freshman of the Year. She played in all 20 matches and started 17 times.

HIGH SCHOOL: Hernandez graduated from Milpitas High School in Milpitas, Calif. She was a four-year letterwinner in soccer and was a four-time first team all-Santa Clara Valley Athletic League selection. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the league her senior year and was the division MVP her junior season. She also played softball and participated in track and field.

PERSONAL: Jessica Marie Hernandez was born on May 4, 1981, in Palo Alto, Calif. Her parents are David and Cindy Hernandez. She has three sisters – Veronica, 18, who is also a member of the San Jose State women’s soccer team, Denice, 15, and Sabrina, 9. She is majoring in psychology and is an SJSU Scholar-Athlete. In July she was named an “Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar for 2001” by Black Issues in Higher Education. She was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Academic team in 2000 and was a WAC Academic -All Freshman team pick in 1999-2000. She enjoys watching sports.
