Women's Soccer Preview
San Jose State opens the 2010 Western Athletic Conference soccer schedule this week at Fresno State, Thursday, September 30. The match is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. San Jose State is entering the match with a four-game unbeaten streak at 5-5 and Fresno State is 4-5-1.
Fresno State holds a 13-5-1 advantage over San Jose State in the all-time series. The Spartans won the last contest at home in 2009, 2-1. The two teams have a history of playing tight matches. The last six of eight matches resulted in a one-point differential with the Bulldogs holding a slight advantage, 4-2.

San Jose State cracked the Top 10 on HendrickCars.com Regional Rankings ending September 28. The Spartans rank at No. 9 in the NCAA Rankings Regional-West.
Scouting Fresno State
Led by second-year head coach Brian Zwaschka, the Bulldogs went 6-13 last year and made their fifth-consecutive WAC Tournament appearance. Senior Kaitlyn Revel and junior Kendall VanDine were named to the 2010 Preseason All-WAC team. The Bulldogs tied at home on Friday, September 24 against Santa Barbara, 0-0 (20T). Junior Laura Dodd currently leads the team with points (7) and goals (3). Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Revel, the Bulldogs leading all-time shutout leader (24), started all ten games this season and holds a 1.16 goals against average.
Last Week's Results
San Jose State kept Saint Mary's College scoreless in a 1-0 victory on Sunday night, September 26. In a shooting frenzy, the Spartans' game-winning goal came in the 80th minute, and came off the foot of Sophomore Kelsey Lord. San Jose State controlled the action most of the game, and outshot the Gaels 21-10, including 6-1 in the first-half. The Spartans put 10 of their 21 shots on goal. Lord's team-leading fifth goal of the season was unassisted.
Maiwald Named WAC Defensive Player Of The Week
Spartan goalkeeper Meghan Maiwald has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for September 20-26. Maiwald completed her second shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over Saint Mary's Sunday night, September 26. The junior registered five saves, including a tough stop with just three minutes remaining in the match. Maiwald has played every minute of San Jose State's ten matches this season.
The Spartans return home to host Hawai'i for their WAC home-opener on Friday, October 8. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
