Denver, Colo.----San Jose State University goalkeeper Meghan Maiwald has been named the Verizon Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for September 20-26.
Maiwald, a junior goalkeeper from Santa Clara, Calif. (Santa Barbara CC), completed her second shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over Saint Mary's Sunday night, September 26. Maiwald registered five saves, including a tough stop with just three minutes remaining in the match.
Maiwald has played every minute of San Jose State's ten matches this season and holds a current four-game unbeaten streak. This is Maiwald's first weekly conference honor of the season and of her career.
