Women's Soccer Takes Four-Game Win Streak On The Road

SJSU HEADS INTO WEEK TWO WITH MOMENTUM
After sweeping last weekend the Spartans take their 2-0-0 record on the road for a matches at Colorado State and Wyoming. Both matches will be shown live on the Mountain West Network. A win on Friday would give SJSU five straight wins, the most since the team won six straight in 2009.

Trend: The Spartans have won all three matchups against the Rams dating back to the 2014 season. San José State won its only match on the road at CSU back in 2015.

Trend: The Spartans have won two of the last three matches against Wyoming and are 2-0-0 against the Cowgirls in Laramie.
SPARTANS ROLL IN OPENING WEEKEND OF LEAGUE
San José State came out of the opening weekend of Mountain West play with a pair of wins against Utah State and Boise State. The two results make it four straight victories dating back to nonconference play, tying for the longest current win streak in the conference. The Spartans currently share first place with New Mexico which had wins over UNLV and Nevada last week.
STARTING STRONG UNDER Lauren Hanson
Since Lauren Hanson took over as head coach of the Spartans, San José State has a 6-1-1 record in the opening weekend of Mountain West play.
DIDI HOPPIUS WINS MW OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Dorthe Hoppius finished last week with three points, one goal, one assist and put 6-of-15 shots on frame on the way to winning Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week. Against Utah State, she assisted SJSU’s equalizing goal which set the stage for the game-winner in double-overtime. Then on Sunday Hoppius scored the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory over Boise State.
BECERRA SENDS SPARTAN SOCCER COMPLEX INTO FRENZY
Jamilecxth Becerra gave fans at Friday’s match a reason to burst when she found the back of the net with a header in the 105th minute of double-overtime to secure a 2-1 win over Utah State. The goal came on a corner kick which Yaritza Arista sent in from the left side. The ball played straight to the head of Becerra who put it in high through the hands of the Aggies keeper. The goal gave SJSU its first win over Utah State since 2010 and gave the home fans a reason to storm the field.
SHOTS, SHOTS, SHOTS.. EVERYBODY!
San José State leads the Mountain West with 47 shots after two league matches. The Spartans outshot Utah State and Boise State combined, 47-17. Dorthe Hoppius leads all players with 15 total shots and she was one of four Spartans that took five or more shots over the weekend.
MORE ON THE OPPONENTS
Colorado State is coming off of a pair of grueling draws in its opening weekend. The Rams played all 110 minutes in both matches and came out with a 1-1 tie against Air Force and a 0-0 tie against Colorado College. Wyoming split its matches during the opening weekend with a win over Colorado College and a loss to Air Force.
NEXT HOME MATCH
The Spartans are on the road for a couple weeks in a row but it’s not too early to mark your calendar for Friday, October 13, when the team plays Nevada back at home. Two days later on Sunday SJSU takes on UNLV at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
