Women's Soccer Preview

San Jose State (4-5) looks to continue their season-high three game unbeaten streak this weekend hosting Saint Mary's (6-1-2) on Sunday, September 26.  The contest will conclude the Spartans non-conference schedule.  After the match on Sunday, September 26, San Jose State men's soccer does battle against San Francisco at 7:30 p.m.  One ticket gets you admission into both matches.

Last Week's Results

San Jose State completed a sweep at the Wolf Pack Invitational defeating Eastern Michigan 2-1 and Idaho State 4-1.  With 67 seconds into the first overtime session, freshman Kayla Santacruz put the match to rest against Eastern Michigan with her first goal of the season, Thursday, September 16.  Two days later, the Spartans ex­ploded for a season-best four goals in a 4-1 rout over Idaho State.  The win extended the Spartans unbeaten streak to three games.  Six different Spartans scored goals against EMU and ISU.  The Spartans demonstrated their versatility with two convincing, one-sided victories on the road.  Goalkeeper Meghan Maiwald tallied five saves and Kelsey Lord led the team with three points.   

 Scouting Saint Mary's

Saint Mary's returns 10 letter-winners and five starters from last year's 9-11 squad.  Highlighting returners are sophomores Daelyn Paul and Christina Tognetti who were selected to the West Coast Conference Team in 2009.  The Gaels have a young team, as 18 freshmen are on the roster for second-year head coach Kai Edwards.  The Gales return from a 0-0 tie at Arkansas and 1-1 tie at Southern Methodist University this past weekend (September 17 & 19).

The Series With Saint Mary's

Saint Mary's has an 8-2 overall series advantage over the Spartans.  In the last three contests' the Spartans own a 2-1 advantage, winning both matches in '05 and '06, and narrowly falling 1-0 in '07.
