Boulder, Colo.-----Laura Mann’s go-ahead goal at the 42:40 mark of the first half stood up as the University of Denver scored a 2-1 victory over San Jose State University in the first-day of University of Colorado women’s soccer tournament.

The Spartans (1-6) grabbed the early lead on an unassisted goal by Kara Krale, her first of the season, at the 11:51 mark. Denver’s Lleane Grimditch evened the score at 1-1, at 18:00 scoring unassisted prior to Mann’s eventual game-winner.

"We did a great job of staying compact. Our defenders worked together possessing the ball, keeping the ball on the ground offensively, getting in behind enough to score the first goal. We put Denver on their heels. We did a great job pressuring the ball, denying their long service and denying their attack," said interim head coach Cris Gilmore.

"In the second half, we possessed the ball a lot in their half and had a shot off the crossbar with about five minutes left in the game. All in all, the girls did a great job (against a top-25 team).

Denver improved to 5-1 with the win.

San Jose State plays the University of Colorado, the tournament host, Sunday, September 21.
