Spartan Women's Soccer Falls To UC Riverside

SAN JOSE—Molly Flanagan scored San Jose State’s only goal in the second half, but the Spartans fell to UC Riverside, 3-1, in a non-conference match at the Spartan Soccer Field Monday afternoon.

Flanagan scored on shot from the back right and curled into the goal around UCR goalie Tawny Poggio. The Spartans had six shots, four on goal, including two from Flanagan, two from Shannon Leslie and shots from Marie McCann and Alison Jablonsky. Erin Lavey made six saves on the day.

The Highlanders took 19 shots, 12 on goal. Kelly Ferguson scored both UCR goals in the second half. Vanessa Chanez started the scoring with a goal at 29:11 on a takeaway.

San Jose State now travels to the Colorado Soccer Challenge this weekend. The team will play Denver Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. CDT, and Colorado Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. CDT.
