SAN JOSE - Rosie Madera scored at the 87:38 mark to give San Jose State University a 1-0 victory over Oregon State University in a non-conference women's soccer game September 13 at Spartan Stadium.
Madera scored after a pass from Julie Brum was deflected by an OSU defender to Madera, who drilled home a shot from the right side near the top of the goalkeeper's box. Brum was credited with an assist on the play. The goal was Madera's first of the season and Brum recorded her first assist of the year.
"That's a good win," said SJSU interim head coach Tamie Grimes. "To win in the last five minutes is always a good pick-me-up."
Grimes said she decided to substitute more in the game, and said that aided in the victory.
Trisha Forni and Eryn Meyer recorded the combined shutout in goal for the Spartans. Forni played the first half and Meyer the second. Meyer had both SJSU saves in the game.
The victory was the second straight for San Jose State. The Spartans now stand at 4-3 overall. Oregon State, which dropped its second in a row, is also 4-3 on the season.
San Jose State returns to action Sunday, when the Spartans meet Washington State in a 1:00 p.m. game at San Luis Obispo, Calif.
