MATCHUP WITH GAELS MARKS END OF PRESEASON
Friday will be SJSU's last chance to tune up for Mountain West play which begins the following weekend. The Spartans (2-4-0) can pull a game closer to .500 with a win, although the slate gets wiped clean when league play begins. SJSU won't be looking past the Gaels though who come in after a convincing 2-0 win versus UC Riverside last Sunday.

MOUNTAIN WEST BREAKDOWN
As teams across the league begin the final week of nonconference play, UNLV (6-1-0) and Fresno State (4-2-1) sit atop the 12-team Mountain West table. The Rebels have scored a league-high 17 goals while allowing six and are undefeated at home during the preseason. Utah State (3-2-1) and Boise State (4-3-1) are third and fourth respectively and they represent SJSU's first two opponents when MW play begins next weekend. The Spartans (2-4-0) are currently 11th, ahead of Nevada (1-5-0). League play for the Spartans begins Friday, September 22, against Utah State.

HURTADO'S GAME-WINNER LIFTS SPARTANS OVER CAL POLY, 1-0
Freshman Gabriella Hurtado got her foot on a loose ball in front of the net in the 50th minute and slid it past the Cal Poly keeper, lifting the Spartans to a 1-0 win. It was the team's first goal and the first win at the new Spartan Soccer Complex. Paige Simoneau earned her first win of the season, improving to 1-2-0 as the Spartans' keeper. It was Simoneau's first clean sheet for the Spartans in 2017.

HOMESTAND CONTINUES
SJSU fans have three more chances this month to watch the team play at the Spartan Soccer Complex. The first being on Friday against Saint Mary's for a 2:00 p.m. (PT) match. Then, a big weekend which marks the beginning of Mountain West play starts on Friday, September 22, when the Spartans host Utah State. A match with Boise State on Sunday, Sept. 24, will end a six-game homestand which began back on Sept. 3 against Georgetown. The match against the Broncos is a Striker Club Sunday at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
