Women's Soccer Heads To UC Riverside

San Jose, Calif. The San Jose State University women’s soccer team travels south this week in search of their first victory of the season.  The Spartans will take on the Highlanders of UC Riverside on Sunday, September 7 at the UCR Soccer Stadium.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

The Spartans played to a pair of 0-0 ties last weekend; at UC Davis on Friday and against Seattle University in Spartan Stadium on Sunday.  San Jose State was led by the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, freshman goalkeeper, Jordan-Michelle Santos.  Santos stopped 13 shots on goal and is currently in the midst of a 233:16 scoreless streak.  The shutouts were the first two of her collegiate career.  The Spartans record stands at 0-2-2 overall.

The Highlanders, 3-1-0, are led offensively by Tessa Lennala with three goals on 13 shots including two game winners and Heidi Garrett has tallied two goals and one assist good for five points.  In goal, Brittany Goetz has allowed two into the net while stopping 22 shots.  She has recorded on shutout. 

Last week, UC Riverside split a pair of matches.  On Friday they defeated host Nebraska, 1-0, before falling to Creighton, 2-1, on Sunday.

UC Riverside leads the all-time series, 3-1, and came away with a victory, 2-1, the last time these two sides met in 2006.
