A huge weekend of Spartan soccer is up ahead as both Friday and Sunday are men’s and women’s doubleheaders. The Spartans welcome in Rice to kickoff the weekend with a 2:00 p.m. (PT) match on Friday preceding the men’s match against UC Davis at 5:00 p.m. (PT). Then, the Spartan women take on #11-Georgetown at noon on Sunday before the men host Sacramento State. SPARTANS TAKE ON RICE FRIDAY
The Rice Owls (1-1-1) visit the Spartan Soccer Complex on Friday at 2:00 p.m. (PT). They come into the match after a scoreless draw with Baylor in their most recent match. Last year Rice went 11-5-1 overall and 8-2-0 in Conference USA action before falling in the first round of the C-USA Tournament. The Spartans and Owls last met on Aug. 23, 2015 in Houston, ending in a 2-1 double-overtime win for Rice.

EXPERIENCE THE STRIKER CLUB AT SUNDAY HOME GAMES
There is no better way to enjoy matches on Sundays at the Spartan Soccer Complex than from inside the Striker Club. The Striker Club experience includes a ticket to game, access to a private area with shaded seating, two beverages (beers/wine/soda/water) and unlimited helpings of snacks. It's just $25 for ages 21 and older and $10 for 20 and under.

#11-GEORGETOWN COMES TO SAN JOSE ON SUNDAY
For the second time in three weeks, San José State will take on a top-25 team in the country when the Goergetown Hoyas come to the Spartan Soccer Complex. The Hoyas begin the week with a 3-1-0 record and will face Stanford on Friday, Sept. 1, before their match against the Spartans. It will be the first meeting between San José State and Georgetown in a women’s soccer match. Last year, the Hoyas made it to the semifinals of the NCAA College Cup.

Ana Calero WINS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Spartan keeper Ana Calero was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for her shutout of Eastern Washington University on Aug. 25. She made six saves along the way to the team’s first shutout of 2017.

RARE KIND OF LOSS FOR SPARTANS
San José State was beaten by the University of Montana, 4-1, last Sunday afternoon. It was the first time in 37 matches that SJSU had allowed four goals in a contest. The last time it happened was on September 20, 2015 when SJSU lost to CSUN 4-3, despite Dorthe Hoppius’ hat trick.
