SAN JOSE—San Jose State scored two goals within two minutes of each other in the second half as the Spartan women’s soccer team defeated Pacific 2-1 Friday afternoon in a non-conference match at the Spartan Soccer Field.

Pacific started the scoring in the first half as Carmen Padilla scored at 20:16 on a breakaway off of a Gabby Olivares throw in from the left side. However, the Tigers played the rest of the game down one player as Sadye Reish was given a red card and ejected from the match.

The Spartans were finally able to take advantage of the extra player in the second half. Kirstin Tanaka scored at 67:27 as she headed in a center pass from Christina Morrison. SJSU struck quickly as Shannon Leslie scored on an Alaina Chandler pass at 68:45.

With the victory, Spartan head coach Cris Gilmore recorded his first win at the helm of the program. San Jose State now faces Santa Clara Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.
