San Jose, Calif. – The San Jose State University women’s soccer team resumed practice on the morning of Tuesday, August 16.

Second-year head coach Dave Siracusa’s 31-player squad had taken its first day off on Monday, August 15, after five consecutive days of double practices since training began August 10.

The Spartans will hold one final day of double practices, Wednesday, August 17, with two-hour sessions at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A single practice at 8:30 a.m. follows on Thursday, August 18, leading into an exhibition game against Sonoma State University at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, at Spartan Field.

"We are six days into double days, and it was starting to show physically," says Siracusa. "Yesterday’s day off was good for us. There was a little bit of life again (in Tuesday morning’s first session). We are going to taper off the strength and conditioning until Friday so that the players have fresh legs (for Friday’s exhibition game). You never really know until they square off against somebody else, but the training has been really good so far. I’ve been here for a year and two-thirds and it’s the best I’ve seen."

All practices are at Spartan Field and are open to the public. Admission to the Sonoma State exhibition on August 19 is free of charge.

San Jose State kicks off the 2005 regular season with a non-conference home contest against UC Irvine on Friday, August 26, at Spartan Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m. The SJSU men’s soccer team will face UC Santa Cruz in an exhibition game immediately prior, at 5:00 p.m.
