WAC Coaches Pick Spartans; Ingram Top Defender

Denver, Colo. - The San Jose State Spartans, two-time defending regular-season Western Athletic Conference women's soccer champions, have been chosen as one of two favorites to win the WAC Championship in 2011.

The conferences eight head coaches cast the votes and selected both the Spartans and Utah State to top their preseason poll with three first-place votes and 42 points each.

For the second consecutive year, senior Jessica Ingram has been selected the conference's preseason Defensive Player of the Year.  She is joined on the 2011 Preseason All-WAC Team by fellow Spartans Kelsey Lord, Lauren Sanchez and last year's WAC Freshman of theYear Kayla Santacruz.

Idaho's Chelsea Small was selected the WAC's preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

The Spartans open the 2011 season on Friday, August 19 against No. 22 Santa Clara.  The match is set for 7:00 p.m. in Spartan Stadium.
