Women's Soccer Loses Opener to Santa Clara, 8-0

San Jose, Calif.----- Aly Wagner scored two goals and added a pair of assists, all in the second half, as Santa Clara University posted an 8-0 win over San Jose State University in a non-conference women’s soccer match.

Wagner’s goals came 15:15 apart and helped the #5-ranked Broncos extend a 2-0 lead to 4-0 with just over 20 minutes left in the game.

Taline Tahmassian also scored twice for Santa Clara, which upped its record to 2-0. Tahmassian’s first goal of the game at the 50:01 mark began a seven-goal second barrage that ended with an own goal as a result of a Spartan defensive mistake.

The Broncos scored the only goal of the first half at the 2:16 mark as Tahmassian crossed a pass in front to teammate Veronica Zepeda who put her shot past San Jose State goalkeeper Erin Meyer.

Santa Clara dominated play out shooting San Jose State, 22-1, in the Spartans’ season-opening loss.
